Proposed a project idea, and explain a selection method for selecting the project

The proposed project is to establish a high quality recycling pickup service for electronics and batteries.  The proposed eleven-week project will not exceed the cost of $600,000.00.

There are economic and ecologic benefits to recycling electronics and batteries. Electronics contain many valuable and recoverable materials such as aluminum, copper, gold, silver, plastics, and ferrous metals. Refurbishing and reusing these natural resources is a valiant conservation effort.   Electronic material also contains toxic and hazardous materials such as mercury, lead, chromium, and chemical flame-retardants, which have the potential to pollute our soil and water.

Recycling batteries reduces the likelihood of air pollution from battery casing corrosion and leakage. These items are not biodegradable and they are slow to decompose. They remain in landfills for a long time and emit gases that could be harmful to the environment. Recycling is less expensive than trash disposal, and buying re-manufactured goods from those with recycled-content can save money.  Recycling these materials also reduces the energy to make brand new products.

The rational for this project is financial yet it is also environmental stewardship. We must take care of the environment in which we live and be cognizant of ways in which we can promote ecological friendly behaviors.

The project manager considered both the constrained optimization and benefits measurement method when considering this project. The measurement method, based on the present value of estimated cash outflow and inflow, is the method chosen for this project. The goal of the benefits measurement method is to review a set of activities and ensure the integration and implementation of changes and managed with a sustained focus on benefits realization.  Whereas the constrained optimization method seeks to minimize or maximize a real
